Welcome to Chedi Restaurant

Experience Thai Food in Newtown, Sydney

Chedi - (pronounced jeh-dee) is a bell-shaped Buddhist monument; found in the compounds of Thai temples. It is symbolic of the mythical mountain abode of the gods. Known as a pagoda in other parts of Asia, these distinct structures are built to encase sacred relics, symbols of Buddhism and to venerate revered monks.

A Fresh Approach to Thai

Chedi Restaurant is contemporary Thai dining with a focus on fresh; combining classical Thai cuisine with a modern vision. Our aim is simple; to provide quality food, quality service and friendly prices in a casual dining atmosphere.

After a decade of working in Asia with the region's top luxury hotels and resorts, Greg and Shanya Richardson have returned to Sydney to open Chedi Restaurant on Newtown's busy King Street - A Fresh Approach to Thai - a return to the balanced flavours and subtle nuances of real Thai food. See our Menu.

Chedi Restaurant is fully licensed with a Wine List of boutique reds and whites from Australia's best wine regions, plus imported varieties chosen specifically to match the spicy flavours of Thai cuisine.  In addition, we also welcome BYO (wine only) so patrons can enjoy their favorite wines not available on our list.

An enhancement to the dining experience is the unique interior of Chedi Restaurant, which is spacious, relaxed and distinctly Thai with Siam style artwork, custom-made furniture and Thai celadon dinnerware. Patrons can choose either; conventional tables with high backed rattan chairs or traditional floor seating on Thai cushions.
